Not since the Manics were in their paint-spraying, Sartre-quoting, Clash-robbing heyday has anything gobbed its way out of a speaker with such obnoxious ferocity that induces sudden spurts of movement akin to those readily associated with St Vitus and beyond. The title track sounds a little like The Electric Soft Parade's 'Empty At The End' if it was speeeeeeded up to 180 mp/h, while 'Club Suicide' mixes loud guitars with programmed beats into a heavenly molotov cocktail of noise. 4/5 Author: Dom Gourlay DROWNED IN SOUND

Brand Violet's single 'Voodoo' will be release on Riverside Records on 3rd May 2004, ahead of the debut album 'Retrovision Coma USA' scheduled for 17th May.
Record Collector magazine says 'This already-cult four piece have an ear for super slick songs ... if Tarantino is struggling for his next soundtrack, he need look no further. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs would kill for these songs.' Drowned in Sound calls them 'London's finest female-fronted guitar combo ... powerful girl vocals, catchy guitars and a hint of doom.'
First two singles produced by P.J. Harvey's engineer. A couple songs licensed to North American TV shows.
References to Pulp Fiction, The Pixies, Blondie, The Cramps and the B-52s roll in. Strange bedfellows perhaps, but Brand Violet sound like nothing else in the UK, maybe the world.
